"A Lifetime Could Never Be Enough" was originally written with reincarnation in mind, and the idea that a strong connection with someone may be carrying over from a past life. I wrote the initial idea after watching "On a Clear Day You Can See Forever". Around two years later I began studying Buddhism, and ideas of rebirth/emptiness. After that the song took on a new meaning; in Buddhism it is believed that "things" are reborn, so this song is kind of a misunderstanding of rebirth, where I want to be reborn with all my personal traits and memories. I realized that I have a strong connection with myself, and because of that connection I am content with "going out" as myself.
Lyrics
I wanna die with you, but not in a sad way
I wanna go out in your arms
If together we run out of time, I don't mind
I wanna sit with you, crochet on my floor
I don't wanna laugh without your smile
When I can't get past the first line, will you mind?
I wanna sit with you, watch the sunrise
I wanna lose time in your eyes
I wanna die with you, but not in a sad way
I'll help you move to the afterlife
If "On Love" describes the perfect flight, then you're mine
Picture us on a crowded plane, I wanna tell you everything I love
I love you more than anything, a lifetime could never be enough
I wanna sit with you, between flowers on the roof
"On a Clear Day You Can See Forever"
And if a movie taught me anything about life, it's all about the question
So I wanna question you, on your past life
Eternity cannot bound your love
And if this life does not contain our time, the next life
Picture us on a crowded plane, I wanna tell you everything I love
I love you more than anything, a lifetime could never be enough
Picture us on a crowded plane, I wanna tell you everything I love
I love you more than anything, a lifetime could never be enough
"On Love" or sometimes "Essays In Love" is a book written by Alain de Botton where two young people meet and fall in love on a plane ride, where they are sat beside eachother.
"On a Clear Day..." is an old movie directed by Vincente Minnelli, where Daisy Gamble can recall past lives. Once you watch the movie you'll hear that there are a few references in the song.
